Wingsuit Tunnel

What is the Wingsuit Tunnel?

The Wingsuit Tunnel is not your average wind tunnel. It is the world’s first facility dedicated to the art of wingsuit flying, designed to simulate the conditions of soaring through the sky in a wingsuit. With cutting-edge technology, the tunnel creates a controlled environment that mimics the airflow experienced during actual flight, providing a safe and effective training ground for flyers of all skill levels.

Who is the tunnel for?

No skydiving experience? No problem. The Wingsuit Tunnel welcomes newcomers, providing a thrilling yet safe introduction to the sensation of flight under expert guidance.

Ideal for those new to skydiving or close to meeting wingsuit criteria. It offers a safe environment to understand wingsuit dynamics and gain a head start.

A perfect training ground for experienced skydivers to refine skills, enhance precision, and prepare for advanced manoeuvres in wingsuit flying.

What does the training program look like?

Embark on an extraordinary journey of aerial mastery through the wingsuit tunnel’s comprehensive training program. Tailored for individuals at every skill level, this program offers a unique pathway to achieve confidence and proficiency in wingsuit flying.

1. Start-Up Training

The journey begins with safety-first Start-Up training, led by experienced instructors. Every flyer, new or seasoned, starts with a four-point safety harness, learning essential flight dynamics in a controlled environment. This foundation is vital for safe progression in wingsuit tunnel flying.

Participants will gradually progress from harness-assisted flying to leash-guided flights, enabling them to experience a full range of movement in a controlled manner.

Achieving solo flight for a 2 and a half minute session under the watchful eye of an instructor earns participants their ProFlyer status, allowing for independent tunnel flying and further progression.

2. Progression System

After mastering the basics and earning your ProFlyer status, the training program offers a structured progression route tailored to develop your flying skills further:

  • Two-Way Belly Flyer: Learn the dynamics of flying in close proximity with another flyer. This stage is essential for understanding relative movement and enhancing spatial awareness.

  • Backflyer: Advance to backflying, a skill that introduces a new dimension to your flying capabilities. Mastering backflying is crucial for versatile movement and serves as a foundation for more complex maneuvers.

  • Transition Flyer: Develop the ability to smoothly transition between different flying orientations, such as from belly to back and vice versa. This skill is pivotal for dynamic flying and prepares you for advanced acrobatic movements.

  • Acrobatics: Dive into the world of acrobatics, covering manoeuvres from the FAI Acrobatics dive pool. This advanced stage challenges you to execute complex aerial stunts, combining all the skills learned in previous stages for a comprehensive mastery of wingsuit flying.

3. Big Suit Flying

For those ready to take on the thrill of Big Suit flying, the tunnel’s Variable Angle System allows for higher glide ratios (GRs), accommodating the flying of larger wingsuits. To participate in Big Suit flying, flyers must:

  • Demonstrate proficiency with intermediate skills using a standard training suit, including starting transition training at GR 1.6.
  • Undergo “Big Suit preparatory training,” a focused session aimed at honing flying, landing, and ground handling techniques specific to larger wingsuits.
  • Participate in initial sessions under the guidance of a coach to ensure safe and effective flying. Once deemed proficient, flyers are allowed to fly solo or with friends, exploring new dimensions of wingsuit flying.
